ACU on Launch Day

After spending much of the day finalizing the website for launch, a break, and some fresh air were much in order. Naturally, this led me trackside. With knowledge that 7001 North was on its way (and tantalizingly clear skies after a week of wildfire haze), I mozied over to one of my favorite haunts. To my surprise, I wasn’t the only one with this idea in mind. Moments after arriving and staking out my shot, a cloud of dust emerged in the distance as a fellow railfan approached on his ATV. After talking back and forth for a few minutes, the familiar sound of an approaching train broke the pleasant conversation as 7001 popped into view. With crossing lights activated and 7001’s distinctive K3L singing out a customary warning to motorists, I raised my camera to frame up the shots you see below.

Here, Canadian Pacific EMD SD70ACu 7001 (nee 9104) is seen guiding a short London-bound train no. 239 through the pastoral countryside at Carlisle, Ontario.
