Noranda Heritage

Ominous autumn skies loom over Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, as Ontario Northland train no. 211 delivers loads of copper slurry for the expansive Horne smelter facilities on the evening of September 25th, 2019. Of note, lead locomotive EMD SD40-2 1730 wears ONR’s attractive “as-delivered” livery from 1973; additionally, the historic Noranda station can be seen in the background. The station dates back to the late 1920s when the ONR (then Temiskaming & Northern Ontario Railway) first arrived in the region.

For what my money’s worth, she’s one of the sharpest looking heritage units out there.
