tunnel motor tuesday

On the morning of November 13th, 2018, an overnight dusting of snow still clings to the trees at Kitchener, Ont., as GEXR 3054, a former Southern Pacific EMD SD45T-2 “Tunnel Motor”, works the yard before carrying on to Stratford with train no. 431 later in the day. With CN’s repatriation of the Guelph Subdivision less than a week away at the time of this photo, these were the very final days of GEXR’s operations over the line from Stratford to Toronto. Having worked in the Kitchener area throughout much of 2018, I made every attempt to document GEXR’s final days east of Stratford. A couple of days prior to this photograph being taken, someone had cleverly applied an ‘SP’ logo to the nose of the 3054 making for a welcomed, albeit unofficial, reminder of this locomotive’s heritage.
